29th July 2020 Hiking - Walking: Long circuit from Hemley Church Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny and hot :) Max Speed: Distance Covered: 5.31 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Wednesday 29th - walk **** - Long circuit from Hemley Church – sunny and hot. After loads of windsurfing sessions over the last week it was nice to have a couple of light wind days for the rest, it didn’t quite work out that way! Woke to a sunny, warm day so did exercises while Mag pottered about in the garden mainly re potting the plants the blackbirds had scattered about the decking! Then we had to decide what to do to make the most of the nice day which involved taking a sandwich out somewhere. We ruled out the bikes, perhaps we will go out for breakfast early tomorrow and decided on driving over to Hemley Church for lunch and then have a walk. We stopped on the way to buy the local paper as I have a small pic printed arriving at the church at 1.30 and got a nice shaded spot under a tree with nice quiet views over a wheat field. After a relaxing sandwich we set off to do the short circuit down to the Deben and back along the old hedgerow path but the river path is still closed so we took the inland path down to Kirton Creek. The tide was low so no water in the creek so we continued along the river path past Ramsholt which was pretty busy by the look of things and sadly no sign of the Spoonbills which have made the small lakes on the other side of the river their home! There was a lot of yacht activity which is nice to see so we continued to the first footpath off to the right taking farm tracks back to Kirton creek and spotted the highlight of the day a family of deer, two adults and a fawn:) We usually bike this route and to be honest would have much preferred to be on them today as walking is knackering and I really struggled with the last mile with achy hips, all this windsurfing is taking its toll! Back at Hemley there were loads of swallows getting ready to leave and a muntjac in the church yard. Never was a cuppa and a rock more welcome back at our lovely little campervan, we even had a short doze before heading home. Photo Gallery Here |
